Our Mission
Lowering the barrier to entry for the next generation of Game Developers.
We are looking to lower the barrier to entry for the next generation of Game Developers into the industry. We have better tools, strong established processes and multiple avenues to ensure employee longevity, but the Games Industry continues to be toxic, full of gatekeeping, and slow to develop new titles.
We believe that through transparent and equitable hiring, training and tooling, adapting modern processes around Lean Agile, DevOps and Rapid Iteration, we can deliver high quality, engaging games while also bringing new and diverse voices into the Industry.
The Industry's Catch-22
The games industry has, for a long time, had a catch-22 around hiring. Every AAA game studio seems to want to hire people who have experience working in games. Traditionally to be hired at these studios individuals need to either have a specialized skill set or instead take entry level QA jobs which they need to work for years before being given an opportunity to prove themselves.
There is no reason for this approach. The tools we have available to us as Game Developers now, with powerful engines such as Unity and Unreal, empower creators to make incredible games easily. The learning curve for this software is still high, and despite being incredibly powerful the iteration speed and effort required to build titles hasn't decreased.
Our Solution
We believe that by creating a strong framework for training, as well as a powerful library of tools, assets and code modules, we can make it easy for those recently finishing a college degree, code school, game design college, or passionate indie developer, to find a home in the games industry by rapidly delivering small scoped games.
In recent years we've seen that many of these games made by small 1-4 person teams have had some very interesting success. (Check out our blog post: Welcome to the Minor Leagues for more info)
We will use a small group of veteran professionals to help mentor and grow these small implementation teams, made up of excited and passionate newcomers to the industry, as well as a tools platform and DevOps specialist group to create more utilities to empower them. With each release we will reflect on ways to improve our tools and processes, and use this knowledge to improve each new team that comes through our doors.
Embracing Change
We know that in today's markets, people move jobs frequently, and rather than operate with a belief that we can retain employees forever, we believe in building a team culture that embraces learning and empowerment. With this organizational structure we can easily onboard new employees and scale as need increases, and when people inevitably leave our company we hope they'll remember the time they spent with us as a fond stepping stone where they got their start in the industry.
Beyond Games
In addition to the games we publish, we will use this knowledge to build custom tooling for large companies, help bootstrap new developer environments for studios just launching who want to understand best practices, provide staff augment for other projects leveraging these engines, and also help co-develop for industries that are excited to have games but don't necessarily have the experience to build them.
Lastly, we believe in reusability and Open Source Ideology. Every SaaS company that exists today has reimplemented a login form. Games do the same thing. We want to change that.
